Foaming Adhesive – Pzroviding a Strong, Reliable Bond

What are Foamers?

Foaming adhesive is a cost saving technique that is commonly used in single face and litho laminating applications. Single face lamination was developed due to the limitations of applying graphic print, such as marketing or informational content, to corrugated material due to its thickness and sponge-like qualities.

The single laminate process uses a traditional fluted medium that is adhered to a single-face or single linerboard. Instead of using another liner, a pre-printed sheet of paperboard is laminated to the outer face. Once this process is complete this sheet is ready to be converted in the same way other corrugated materials are prepared for manufacturing.

Foaming water based adhesives offers significant advantages for users of water based adhesives.  If your application uses a PVA/VAE emulsion adhesive and you are roll coating in some manner, foaming adhesive can provide significant savings by reducing your consumption. As an example:

  • Adhesive is used by the gallon (by volume)
  • Paid for by the pound
  • If the same volume of adhesive weighs 30% less, then you will use 30% less adhesive by weight
  • Thus 30% less cost

When foaming adhesive, the benefits to the quality of the final product and production time are notable; specifically:

  • Adhesives are 50% water and water is what causes wrinkling, warp, etc.
  • Less water = less wrinkling and warp – better lay flat
  • Faster time to die-cutters

Our foaming adhesive system includes adhesives formulated to be foamed as well as our own line of adhesive foaming units.  These foaming units have been designed to be easy to use and maintain.  The foamers are available for use by our customers while they are using our adhesives.
The Adhesive Foaming Unit itself features the following:

  • Fully automatic adhesive foaming system
  • Stainless Steel Construction results in long equipment life
  • Easy to use makes training plant personnel simple
  • PLC Controls provide for remote diagnostics and data collection
